HOLY SATURDAY IS OUR LADY'S DESOLATION DAY

In the 1957 edition of the Raccolta (Manual of Indulgences approved by the Church), it says: “The faithful who, between three o’clock of Good Friday and noon of the following day (Holy Saturday), spend some time in devout meditation or offer some prayers, either in public or in private, in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sorrowing, may gain a plenary indulgence on the usual conditions. Those who at other seasons of the year perform the same devout exercise between three o’clock on Friday afternoon and noon of the following Sunday, may gain an indulgence of 5 years.”

Blessed Pope Pius IX, by a decree of the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences, of December 23rd, 1847, deigned to grant
an indulgence of 100 days to all the faithful, every time they say, with contrite heart, the following prayer in honor of the most holy Virgin in her desolation.

THE SINKING OF THE TITANIC
Are we headed for another Titanic Disaster?

Around this time of the year, between April 10th and April 15th, 109 years ago, the largest ship of its time was on her fateful maiden voyage to an appointment with fate. On board were the rich and the poor, Catholics and non-Catholics, pagans and atheists, sinners and virtuous, As Holy Scripture says: "God is not a respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34) and as the resultant inquiry ruled, after investigating the tragedy, the sinking was "An act of God." Yet there were many imprudences and mistakes on the part of man that played a large part in that "act of God". As we are right in the middle of the voyage timeline--two days from leaving the port of Southampton, England, and two day from striking the fatal iceberg, it is a good time to re-live those fateful days and draw some spiritual analogies from them to apply to our "Titanic" Church, or the Ark of the Church (the Barque of Peter) as she imprudently and heedlessly sails into fatal waters charted out by the icebergs of prophecy.

Article 19 : Who Likes Being Needled? Is the Thought of Mandatory Vaccinations Needling You?
All 50 states now require children to be vaccinated for multiple diseases before they’re allowed to begin kindergarten. California requires vaccinations before kids can attend preschool or go to daycare, with no religious exemptions allowed. California removed the option for parents to obtain a religious exemption from vaccinating their children, because tech oligarchs in Silicon Valley and wealthy elites in Hollywood were all refusing to vaccinate their kids based on religious exemption! It’s remarkable how religious they suddenly became when the state began mandating medical treatments for their own children, isn’t it?

Vaccine champion and Microsoft founder Bill Gates refused to allow his own children to be vaccinated. This admission came from the Gates family’s personal physician in Seattle, who was speaking behind closed doors with other doctors at a symposium in 2018. The doctor reportedly told his colleagues, “I don’t know if he (Gates) had them vaccinated as adults, but I can tell you he point blank refused to vaccinate them as children.” Bill Gates―and his friends among the wealthy elites―refuse to submit their own children to the mandatory vaccinations, while they expect the rest of the world to submit to vaccination. It also seems like Bill Gates and the elites know something about vaccines that the rest of us aren’t being told.

Just like all parents will say: “My Johnny is a good boy!” Pfizer officials say their vaccine is “completely safe and effective.” Yet just as many a teacher will testify that “Johnny is not always a good boy, but a terror at times!” likewise there are many horror stories about this new ‘miracle’ COVID vaccine coming in from all quarters of the world. Australia suddenly stopped its trials of the vaccine in mid-December (2020) after multiple test subjects suddenly tested positive for HIV. One must wonder why people would develop HIV (AIDS) after getting the COVID vaccine? Well, it is because the vaccine contains a protein from the HIV virus! The 2020 U.S. Presidential elections are barely 3 months away as this introductory piece is being written on the Feast of Our Lady of the Snows (August 5th) which is followed by the feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus on Mount Tabor (August 6th). Since the date for the Presidential Election has been scheduled for November 3rd, 2020, these dates of August 5th or August 6th are providentially perfect dates to begin a powerful novena of 90 days. If you begin on August 5th―then the 90th day falls on the feast of All Souls (November 2nd). If you begin on August 6th―then the 90th day falls on the actual day of Presidential Election (November 3rd).

Why a Novena of 90 days? Wouldn’t just 9 days suffice―which is the traditional length of a novena? Sure―you can do your 9-day novena at any time you like. However, given the fact that current religious, political, social, cultural, economic and moral climate of the country is plummeting rapidly―something more powerful is needed to hopefully stop or slow the current free-fall of America into various shades and degrees of totalitarianism, revolution, civil war, social unrest, lawlessness and immorality. Serious diseases require serious medicines if they are to be cured or contained.

The Number Nine symbolizes divine completeness or conveys the meaning of finality. The Number Ten symbolizes the perfection of divine order. We have the Ten Commandments of God given to us through Moses. We have the Ten Petitions of the prayer “Our Father”. The Ten Plagues of Egypt. The Parable of the Ten Virgins. Thus a 90-day Novena―which is 9 times 10―could be said to be the divine completeness of the perfection of the divine order. Now that Holy Week is Over, It is Time to Start ...

Where is all this leading to? Is there an escape route?

Never has the world seen such a concerted, combined and coordinated worldwide enforcement of totalitarianism under the perennial propaganda of Satan's temptations disguised under the guise of good. Satan is both the “prince of the world” (John 14:16-17; 15:26; 16:7-11) and the “father of lies” (John 8:41-45). The world, since it has chosen to ignore and even reject God and His commandments, has fully become the child of its prince, the devil and it has taken on the characteristics of its prince and father, that of lying. The world, on the other hand, protests that these seekers of truth and bearers of truth are liars themselves and “conspiracy theorists”―whereas it is the world and its rulers that are in conspiracy against God: “The kings of the Earth stood up, and the princes met together, against the Lord and against His Christ. ‘Let us break Their bonds asunder and let us cast away Their yoke from us!’” (Psalm 2:2-3) ... “Know you not that the friendship of this world is the enemy of God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of this world, becometh an enemy of God” (James 4:4). “The world hateth Me because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil” (John 7:7). “If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated Me before you … If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, therefore the world hateth you” (John 15:19).

While it is not of strict necessity for salvation ― which prayer in general is — the specific exercise of mental prayer is, to quote Fr. Adolphe Tanquerey, from his book, The Spiritual Life: “the most effective means of assuring one’s salvation.”

St. Teresa of Avila, who seems almost fanatical in her insistence on mental prayer, goes further:
“He who neglects mental prayer needs not a devil to carry him to Hell, but he brings himself there with his own hands.”

St. John of the Cross, said: “Without the aid of mental prayer, the soul cannot triumph over the forces of the demon.”

There is only one way to Heaven. There is only one road map to Heaven. There is only one set of rules for getting to Heaven. Most people just try to "wing-it", but as we know, most souls are lost! Getting to Heaven is much more involved that merely “flying on a wing and a prayer”! If you are content with merely knowing the basics (and often knowing them imperfectly), then good luck to you. Of course, the bottom-line is “stay in a state of grace”, but in the spiritual warfare that we find ourselves in today, that kind of flimsy advice is just as useless as telling a soldier during war, “just stay alive” without training him on how to stay alive and how to win the war.

It is in order to remedy this apathy, indifference, ill-preparedness and ignorance about the "Narrow Path" to Heaven that this non-ending series of articles has been undertaken. If it is true that “You cannot love what you do not know” then it is equally true that you will not get to your destination if you do not know how to get there and how to avoid the pitfalls that have led most souls and most of mankind into the pit. “Let them alone: they are blind, and leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the pit” (Matthew 15:14). “Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!” (Matthew 7:13-14). “Strive to enter by the narrow gate; for many, I say to you, shall seek to enter, and shall not be able” (Luke 13:24).

It is the spiritual life, properly understood and fully lived, that will save your soul. That is why this website is overwhelmingly focused on the spiritual life. What good is to know all about the crisis in the Church while you neglect to repair, strengthen and sanctify the crisis in your own soul? “For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?” (Mark 8:36). As both pagan philosophers and saints have said: “Know thyself!” (Plato, Socrates, St. Augustine, St. Ignatius of Loyola. St. Teresa of Avila, etc.). The true knowledge and understanding of what is going on in one’s own soul is far more important than knowing what is going out in the world and in everyone else’s lives! The devil is the prince of the world, and he distracts us from focusing on our souls by making us focus on the world!

These articles will be based upon the most traditional and most sounds spiritual authorities and masters (no “cotton-candy-catechetics”), but the articles will try to simplify that teaching, which can often be heavy, without altering its truth, demands, or power. Their scope will be broad and all-inclusive, as compared to exercising the whole body—and not just an arm or a leg—for the spiritual life is not specialized to some one small area, but is all-inclusive of our soul and our life and our every single day and hour.

Some things will be repeated often, simply because some things HAVE TO BE REPEATED OFTEN—as we see with the oft-repeated liturgical readings at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. These articles will not pretend to better the magnificent (though, to some people, heavy and dull) volumes written on the spiritual life, but they will try to make those truths more palatable, understandable, attractive and effective for the average person. Constant analogies will be made to concrete elements that we witness in our daily lives in order to further drive those truths into the depth of our minds and hearts.

However, as they say, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”—likewise, you can show a soul the path to Heaven, but you cannot stop it from going to Hell through culpable negligence—not even God has stopped the damnation of such souls. We are free to use our will for better or for worse! It is to help you use it for better things that these articles will be written. The water of grace will be there—you can drink it or spit it out! Your choice! Your life! Your fate!

Pope St. Pius X, in his encyclical, Acerbo Nimis. wrote: “It is a common complaint, unfortunately too well founded, that there are large numbers of Christians in our own time who are entirely ignorant of those truths necessary for salvation. We refer not only to the masses or to those in the lower walks of life, but also those especially who do not lack culture or talents and, indeed, are possessed of abundant knowledge regarding things of the world but live rashly and imprudently with regard to religion. Our Predecessor, Benedict XIV, had just cause to write: ‘We declare that a great number of those who are condemned to eternal punishment suffer that everlasting calamity because of ignorance of those mysteries of faith which must be known and believed in order to be numbered among the elect.’ How many and how grave are the consequences of ignorance in matters of religion!

“For this reason the Council of Trent prescribes that pastors shall teach the truths of religion on Sundays and on the more solemn feast days; moreover during the holy seasons of Advent and Lent they are to give such instruction every day or at least three times a week. This, however, was not considered enough! There are some who, wishing to lessen their labors, would believe that the homily on the Gospel can take the place of catechetical instruction. Such is obviously impossible. The sermon on the holy Gospel is addressed to those who should have already received knowledge of the elements of faith. It is, so to speak, bread broken for adults. Catechetical instruction, on the other hand, is that milk which the Apostle Peter wished the faithful to desire in all simplicity like newborn babes.

“We are indeed aware that the work of teaching the Catechism is unpopular with many ... We again insist on the need to reach the ever-increasing numbers of those who know nothing at all of religion, or who possess at most only such knowledge of God and Christian truths as befits idolaters. How many there are, alas, not only among the young, but among adults and those advanced in years, who know nothing of the chief mysteries of Faith. ” (Pope St. Pius X, Acerbo Nimis).

At the expressed desire of the Directors of the Bulletin Notre Dame de la Bonne Mort (Our Lady of the Good Death), this pamphlet is published with all the reservations ordered by the Church in the decree of Pope Urban VIII, and as a purely historical document. It was sent to that periodical by a zealous and devout missionary and is a pious document based on alleged conversations between a nun and a soul in Purgatory. This manuscript contains very interesting statements about the life beyond the grave, particularly about Purgatory. The details are intermingled with much spiritual direction. Its authenticity is beyond doubt. A nun, identified for us merely as Sister M. de L. C., of a convent at V., without warning began to hear prolonged sighs beside her. This was in November 1873. She cried out, “Oh, who are you, you frighten me. Whatever you do, don’t show yourself. Tell me, who are your?” No answer was forthcoming. The sighs continued and even came nearer. In vain did the poor Sister multiply her prayers, communions, ways of the cross, and rosaries. The sighs did not cease and remained unexplained until February 15, 1874, when a voice she recognized was heard saying: “Do not be afraid, you will not see me in my sufferings. I am Sister M. G.” Sister M. G. was a nun who had died at V., a victim to devotion and duty, February 22nd, 1871, at the age of 36.

No fun, but a bore
There are better things to do
Than sit bored in a pew!
Oh well, at least I can dream
Of donuts or ice-cream
And look forward to the fun
To be had once church is done!

A saint who is sad, is indeed a sad saint!
Yet if your god is your belly, a saint you ain't!
A bit of humor with a little truth,
Can help us change, as we grow long in the sweet tooth!
Many a true word can be said in jest,
If their goal is to bring out of us our best!
Faith grows dim when we God no longer seek;
And that, in turn, makes our love of God weak!
For we were made to love God with all our heart!
Yet today God is forsaken and many from Him depart!
When man turns from God to material things,
Inevitably chastisement this brings!
