Devotion to Our Lady
"It is impossible that a servant of Mary be damned, provided he serves
her faithfully and commends himself to her maternal protection."
St. Alphonsus Liguori, Doctor of the Church (1696-1787)

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
O Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, most perfect, holy and ever Virgin Mother of the God, please listen to the prayers of thy humble, worthless children. O Mother of the God of Truth, through Whom everything was made and through Whom everything is kept in existence, thou didst ask that a church be built for thee. Grant us the joy and grace to be living churches, dedicated to thy service and thy honor, so that through thee, with thee and in thee, we may exalt our God and maker; make Him manifest in our daily lives and bring Him and give Him to all those around us.

Thou didst patiently bear with Juan Diego and all his faults and failings. Therefore, filled with this confidence in thy mercy and compassion, we consecrate to thee all that we are, with all our personal faults and failings; we consecrate to thee all whom we love, with all their faults and failings; and we consecrate to thee our imperfect works, with all their faults and failings. For we know that “the foolish things of the world hath God chosen, that He may confound the wise; and the weak things of the world hath God chosen, that He may confound the strong” (1 Cor. 1:37).

Help and guide us—who love thee, seek thee and trust thee—in our efforts to serve thee, so that we may be for thee the eyes through which you seek out the wretched and the sinful; that we may be for thee ears, which listen with compassion and mercy to the plight and needs of thy people; that we may be for thee a mouth, which consoles and counsels the countless suffering souls weighed down by sin, sorrow, sadness or even persecution; that may we be for thee hands, which bring relief to the poor and tend to the sick, the aged and the dying; that may we be for thee feet, to bring thy merciful motherly presence and protection to the most abandoned souls. For thou didst promise to hear their weeping, their complaints and heal all their sorrows, hardships and sufferings.
Let us not fear to do thy work; nor fear the fatigue and trouble that this mission will cause us. We will, out of love for thee, put forth our best effort. We promise to make thee more known and more loved; we will instill a devotion and confidence towards thee in hearts of all whom we shall meet, even the greatest of sinners and we will lead souls into thy service and place them under thy protection.

Keep from our minds and hearts all discouragement, disturbance, sadness and sorrow, and remind us often that thou art our Mother, and that we are safe in the hollow of thy mantle, under thy shadow and protection. Be thou the source of our strength, our joy, our zeal and our confidence; guide us safely through the snares of the devil and wicked people; obtain for us the courage and wisdom needed to fight for the Faith in these evil times; purge, purify and sanctify our souls; help us make worthy reparation for our sins and grant us the grace of final perseverance and a holy death, so that we may see and bless thee for all eternity in Heaven. Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we confidently turn to thee.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we fervently pray to thee.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we consecrate ourselves to thee.

CHAPLET OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
How to pray the Chaplet of Our Lady of Guadalupe

EXPLANATION OF THE CHAPLET
OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

The Chaplet of Guadalupe has a cross, 21 beads and a medal.

Between the cross and the medal, there is 1 bead, and a set of 4 beads and then another bead. On these are said one Our Father, four Hail Marys and one Glory Be.

Elsewhere on the Chaplet, there are 4 sets of 3 beads, each separated by 1 bead (total of 3 single beads, since the medal counts as a 'bead' just as it does on the regular Rosary).

The Hail Mary is said on each set of three bead clusters; and the Our Father and Glory Be is said on each of the three single isolated beads (just like on a regular Rosary).

So the sequence of prayers is as follows:
1. One Our Father, four Hail Marys, and one Glory Be.

2. One Our Father, three Hail Marys, and one Glory Be.
3. One Our Father, three Hail Marys, and one Glory Be.
4. One Our Father, three Hail Marys, and one Glory Be.
The Prayers of the Chaplet

Begin with the following prayer:

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose, intercede for the Holy Church of God; protect the Sovereign Pontiff; help all those who invoke you in their necessities; and, since you are the ever-Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from thy most Holy Son the grace of keeping our faith; of maintaining a sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life; a burning charity; and the precious gift of final perseverance. Amen.

On the first bead, pray one Our Father
Pray four Hail Marys on the set of 4 beads in honour of Our Lady of Guadalupe's four apparitions to St. Juan Diego.
Pray one Glory Be

Each set of beads represents one apparition

THE FIRST APPARITION
Our Lady of Guadalupe appears to St. Juan Diego.  Our Lady requests a church to be built in her honor.

Pray one Our Father

Prayer:
Our Lady of Guadalupe, my Queen and my Mother, I thank thee for thy first apparition to St. Juan Diego, when thou didst reveal that thou art the Most Pure Virgin, Mary, Mother of the True God and Mother of all mankind. I thank thee for requesting a church to be built where thou didst stand, to bear witness to thy love, thy compassion, thy aid and thy protection for all who would love thee, trust thee, and invoke thy help.

Pray three Hail Marys followed by one Glory Be

THE SECOND APPARITION
Our Lady of Guadalupe gives St. Juan Diego encouragement after his return from the Bishop’s house.

Pray one Our Father

Prayer:
Our Lady of Guadalupe, my Queen and my Mother, I thank thee for your second apparition to St. Juan Diego when, upon his return from the Bishop’s house, he knelt in humiliation and defeat before thee, since he was unable to accomplish your mission. I thank thee for the courage and encouragement thou didst give to St. Juan Diego, to go make a second appeal to the Bishop.

Pray three Hail Marys followed by one Glory Be

THE THIRD APPARITION
Our Lady of Guadalupe promises a sign to St. Juan Diego for the Bishop.

Pray one Our Father

Prayer:
Mother, I thank thee for your third apparition to St. Juan Diego when, after this unsuccessful attempt to have a church built, thou didst say to him, "So be it, son. Return tomorrow in order that you may secure for the Bishop, the sign for which he has asked. When this is in your possession, he will believe you; he will no longer doubt your word and suspect your good faith. Be assured that I shall reward you for all that you have undergone."

Pray three Hail Marys followed by one Glory Be

THE FOURTH APPARITION
Our Lady of Guadalupe fulfills her promise by showing herself on the tilma of St. Juan Diego.

Pray one Our Father

Prayer:
Our Lady of Guadalupe, my Queen and my Mother, I thank thee for your fourth apparition to St. Juan Diego when thou didst order him to pick the roses he would find on the summit of the hill and bring them to thee. I thank thee for arranging them in his tilma when thou didst say: "This cluster of roses is the sign that you shall take to the Bishop. You are to tell him, in my name, that in this he will recognize my will and that he must fulfill it. You will be my ambassador, wholly worthy of my confidence. Only in the presence of the Bishop shall you unfold your mantle and disclose that which you carry."  I thank thee, Our Lady, for thy image printed upon the tilma, which appeared when the roses were released.

Pray 3 Hail Marys followed by 1 Glory Be

Closing Prayer:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin of Guadalupe, that in thy celestial apparition on the Mount of Tepeyac, thou didst promise to show thy compassion and pity towards all who, loving and trusting thee, seek thy help and call upon thee in their necessities and afflictions; also to hearken to our supplications, to dry our tears and to give us consolation and relief. Inspired with this confidence we come before thy august presence, certain that thou wilt deign to fulfill thy merciful promises. We are full of hope that, standing beneath thy protection nothing will trouble or afflict us. Thou has desired to remain with us through thy admirable image, thou who art our Mother, our health and our life.

O Mary, Mother of God, hear our petitions and in thy mercy answer us.  Amen

OPTIONAL PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Our Lady of Guadalupe, my Mother, into thy hands joined in prayer, take my prayers, petitions and hopes, and present them to Jesus for me.  Remembering the love and care thy hands rendered to Him, He will not refuse what they hold now, even though they are from me.  Amen.

THE MEMORARE OF GUADALUPE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, that in thy celestial apparitions on the mount of Tepeyac, thou didst promise to show thy compassion and pity towards all who, loving and trusting thee, seek thy help and call upon thee in their necessities and afflictions.

Thou didst promise to listenen to our supplications, to dry our tears and to give us consolation and relief. Never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, either for the common welfare, or in personal anxieties, was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Mary, ever Virgin Mother of the True God! Though grieving under the weight of our sins, we come to prostrate ourselves in thy august presence, certain that thou wilt deign to fulfill thy merciful promises. We are full of hope that, standing beneath thy shadow and protection, nothing will trouble or afflict us, nor need we fear illness, or misfortune, or any other sorrow.

Thou hast decided to remain with us through thy admirable image, thou who art our Mother, our health and our life. Placing ourselves beneath thy maternal gaze and having recourse to thee in all our necessities, we need do nothing more. O Holy Mother of God, despise not our petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer us (mention your request here).

Five Hail Marys...in gratitude for the four apparitions to Juan Diego and the one to Juan Bernardino.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose, intercede for thy Holy Church; protect the Sovereign Pontiff; help all those who invoke thee in their necessities; and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith; of maintaining a sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life; a burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance.

The following may be added.

Dearest Lady, fruitful Mother of Holiness, teach me thy ways of gentleness and strength. Hear my prayer, offered with deep felt confidence to beg this favor...

(mention your request here)

O Mary, conceived without sin, I come to thy throne of grace
to share the fervent devotion of thy faithful Mexican children
who call to thee under the glorious title "Guadalupe"
— the Virgin who crushed the serpent.

Queen of Martyrs, whose Immaculate Heart was pierced by seven swords of grief, help me to walk valiantly amid the sharp thorns strewn across my path. Invoke the Holy Spirit of Wisdom to fortify my will to frequent the Sacraments so that,
thus enlightened and strengthened, I may prefer God to all creatures and shun every occasion of sin.

Help me, as a living branch of the Vine that is Jesus Christ, to exemplify His divine charity always seeking the good of others.
Queen of Apostles, aid me to win souls for the Sacred Heart of my Savior. Keep my apostolate fearless, dynamic, and articulate, to proclaim the loving solitude of Our Father in Heaven so that the wayward may heed His pleading and obtain pardon, through the merits of Your Merciful Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

DEDICATION OF A CHILD
TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Dearest Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe, your message of love and care on Tepeyac Hill, floated like a lilting lullaby into the fresh golden dawn.

Softly you called to Juan Diego, "least of your sons," a man of middle years, but guileless and childlike in spirit. Through him you invited all your children to come to you, the ever-virgin Mother of God, to look to you as a Mother who wanted only to show a mother’s love.

You would give them whatever they needed, help and protection; strength and comfort. As a lasting proof you left us
your own marvelous picture, unpainted by any human hand.

Today we bring to you our child N.___________ (perhaps as yet unborn). May this little one always know and love you as holy Mary, Mother of the true God in whom we live and have our being.

May this new soul, fresh breathed forth from the Creator,
giving life to the body, be like the soul of Juan Diego, simple, pure and good.

Dear Lady of Guadulupe, touch this petal of our hearts
with the wintry roses of Tepeyac, so that a fragrant joy and peace may spread along its path of earthly life, reminding men of you and sweetly drawing them to your waiting heart.

Take this child as your own, enfold it in the mantle of your care, until the day when, in a new land, all your children will join with you, their merciful Mother, endlessly giving praise and thanks to God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

NOVENA TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Say this Opening Prayer on each day of the Novena:

Our Lady of Guadalupe, according to thy message in Mexico,  I venerate you as "the Virgin Mother of the true God for whom we live, the Creator of all the world, Maker of Heaven and earth."

In spirit I kneel before thy most holy Image,  which thou didst miraculously imprint upon the cloak of the Indian, Juan Diego, and, with the faith of the countless numbers of pilgrims, who visit thy shrine, I beg thee for this favor:

(mention your request here)

Remember, O Immaculate Virgin, the words thou didst speak to thy devout client, "I am a merciful Mother to you and to all your people,  who love me and trust in me and invoke my help. I entreat thee, Our Lady of Guadalupe, to grant my request, if this should be the Will of God, in order that I may "bear witness to thy love, thy compassion, thy help and protection."  Please do not forsake me in my needs. Amen.

A TRIDUUM (3 DAYS) OF PRAYER
TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Read the following Scriptural readings and say all the prayers on each of the three days:

Holy Scripture:
“
For I have chosen, and have sanctified this place, that my name may be there for ever, and my eyes and my heart may remain there perpetually.” (2 Paralipomenon [Chronicles] 7:16)

"Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in array?" (Canticle of Canticles 6:9).

Say three Hail Marys

"I am the mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of holy hope. In me is all grace of the way and of the truth, in me is all hope of life and of virtue. Come over to me, all ye that desire me, and be filled with my fruits. For my spirit is sweet above honey, and my inheritance above honey and the honeycomb. My memory is unto everlasting generations." (Ecclesiasticus 24:24-28).

Prayer:
O God, Thou hast been pleased to bestow upon us unceasing favors, by having placed us under the special protection of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Grant us, Thy humble servants, who rejoice in honoring her today upon earth, the happiness of seeing her face to face in Heaven. Through Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin of Guadalupe, that in thy apparitions on Mount Tepeyac thou didst promise to show pity and compassion to all who, loving and trusting thee, seek thy help and protection.

Accordingly, listen now to our supplications and grant us consolation and relief. We are full of hope that, relying on thy help, nothing can trouble or affect us. As thou hast remained with us through thy admirable image, so now obtain for us the graces we need. Amen.
